Therapy and Consultation Services

Evidence-based therapy can help students learn strategies to manage emotional challenges so that they can reach their potential. Therapy methods, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), may be incorporated in session depending on the presenting concerns and treatment goals that the student wants to address.

The initial therapy appointment involves an interview and discussion with the student and their parents in order to understand the student’s strengths and current difficulties. Student and parents are often asked to complete some questionnaires to further understand their presenting concerns.

The student and parents are then offered treatment recommendations, before deciding to start therapy sessions to address the presenting concerns. At the midpoint of therapy, the student and parents are asked to discuss their progress in therapy to determine whether further appointments would be beneficial. Therapy length can vary depending on the presenting concerns.
